Dickens dies
Charles Dickens dies at Gad's Hill Place in Kent, aged 58, collapsing over the dinner he never finished. The most beloved novelist of the age -- Pickwick, Oliver, Scrooge, Miss Havisham all his -- is buried in Westminster Abbey. All England mourns; the shops of London close for his funeral.
