The oldest surviving film is shot
In the garden of Oakwood Grange in Roundhay, Leeds, Louis Le Prince cranks his single-lens camera and captures his family walking in a circle — about two seconds and twenty frames of film. The Roundhay Garden Scene is the oldest surviving motion picture ever made. Le Prince vanishes from a train in 1890 and never sees the cinema age his invention helped create.
