costermonger
A street seller of fish, fruit, vegetables, and poultry — the classic London street trader.
“The costermonger cried ‘fine ripe cherries’ from his barrow the length of the street.”
Note: Hotten's 1864 Slang Dictionary counts more than 30,000 London costermongers, ‘a distinct class, occupying whole neighbourhoods’; ‘coster’ was the short form.
